New mock-ups

 These are the latest mock-ups. I found a more interesting photo for Saima, shot with a low angle and featuring a dynamic element with the movement of her dress. Ive also worked on the composition of the coverlids which I'm liking so far. I prefer this photo of Lilly. its more interesting with her pose and headdress and puts forward a more delicate energy compared to Saima's powerful one which I like.

The masthead

 

The masthead was a difficult process. Originally, I picked Flair as it was the most popular response from the questionnaire I sent to people in the 16-25 year old age group. However, I was then informed that the name had already been taken. Then I tried to turn to a French name to mimic Vogue and also to emulate high status and fashion that France is associated with. I settled on L'etoile, as I thought it linked well with the idea of representing stars and sounding high fashion. Unfortunately, this too was taken. Still, I tried to look for a French word that I felt invoked glamour. I found Lueur which means glow. I really like this. it looks nice, paired with the interesting font used and ticks all the boxes I was looking for.

First mock-ups

 

These were the first mock ups I completed to get an idea on how the two front covers would look. Ultimately, we decided that Saima's photo was too boring and that I had to use one with a more interesting pose. Lilly's photo is fine, however I've come to prefer other photos I took to it. Also the shot types across these two drafts felt too similar to me so I decided to remedy that by using one close up and another midst for the front cover. The masthead is nice, I like the way it looks and it's a French word so feels reminiscent to more high end things and also mimics Vogue (another French word)
